In honor of the late Jeffrey Cook, SBSE plans to award scholarships to support travel expenses to present papers at the 2022 PLEA Conference in Santiago, Chile. Funding for this opportunity has been generously provided by the Jeffrey Cook Charitable Trust. The scholarship application/evaluation process is conducted by SBSE. It is the intention of SBSE to award these scholarships to applicants from across the globe. Applicants must plan to attend the conference in person to be eligible for the scholarship.
Eligible applicants must be a student at the time of the PLEA Conference (November 23-25, 2022), must have a paper/poster accepted for publication at the PLEA conference, and must present the paper/poster at the conference. Because conference participation is a condition of the scholarship, scholarship monies will not be available prior to the conference. All arrangements related to conference attendance (including registration, lodging, and travel) will be handled by the applicant.
Evaluation of applications will consider the information presented in the application form to the scholarship committee; this information corresponds with the scholarship selection criteria. Applicants are not required to be SBSE members, but membership is considered during the selection process. This is not a need-based scholarship.
The review process will include consideration of the full paper or poster submitted to PLEA.
At the request of the Jeffrey Cook Charitable Trust, each scholarship recipient must (within one week of the PLEA conference) submit a one-page note to SBSE scholarship coordinator to be shared with the Trust. The note should indicate the recipient's future professional plans and the meaning of the the scholarship support.
SBSE reserves the right to award all or none of these proposed scholarships based upon the quality of applications. Late applications will not be considered.
