The Society of Building Science Educators (SBSE) intends to provide up to five scholarships to support emerging faculty in the early stages of their career who will make presentations at the 2019 Reynolds Symposium: Education by Design. The symposium will be held on October 18 and 19, 2019, in Portland, Oregon.
The scholarship will provide $500 in total support. Recipients will be responsible for registration fees, travel, lodging, and all other related costs. The scholarship amount will be provided to the recipient at the symposium; funding will not be provided prior to the event. Advance registration and full participation in the symposium activities is a condition of the scholarship offer.
The scholarship is open to all faculty who self-identify as early in their career. SBSE membership is not an application requirement but may be used as a factor in the selection process. (Please note that members in developing countries may waive the SBSE membership fee.)
The SBSE Scholarship Committee will select awardees whose proposals best make the case that attendance will enhance the applicant's teaching, research, professional service, and networking capacities, and whose presentations will make a significant contribution to the focus of the symposium on moving design away from creating fossil fuel-based communities and toward building environments that are healthy, resilient, and carbon-emissions free. The committee anticipates a competitive process. Decisions will be based on the same long paper (second-round submission) submitted to the symposium organizers. Applicants must submit this paper to SBSE's Scholarship Application Form to be considered for the scholarship.
Awardees are kindly requested to submit a short statement after the symposium, which may be published in the SBSE newsletter, in acknowledgement of SBSE's support.
Deadline for submission: July 22, 2019
