What
to Bring

1.
Eco-literacy Reading:
In keeping with the theme of this year's retreat, you are
all asked to bring a reading related to ecological literacy.
This should be a paper or a book that has been of particular
relevance to you, something that has perhaps had a significant
impact on your thinking - either in terms of ecological literacy
generally or it's particular role in architectural education
and the profession. We will then develop a bibliography of
these resources to be posted on the SBSE website post-retreat.
If you will be sharing a paper please bring enough copies
for all 40 participants. If you will be sharing a book, 40
copies of the book would, I'm sure, be appreciated; you may
also simply wish to bring a copy for show and tell and the
appropriate reference for mass consumption.
For the environmental
history tour, Frank recommends bringing sturdy walking
shoes, hat, insect repellent, sunscreen, water, camera, binoculars
and be sure to dress for changeable weather
2.
Clothing:
By the time the second week of June rolls around, this part
of the Sierras should be quite warm, but nights can get chilly,
so bring layers. It is not uncommon to experience a
quick 10 minute shower, either, so a water-resistant or
water-proof parka or jacket is also a good idea. If you're
planning on doing some hiking around this area, a decent pair
of walking or hiking shoes will make life easier. Sunscreen
is also recommended.
3. Gear and Misc.:
Camera, binoculars, flashlight, gadgets (GPS system),
telescopes, etc. There are several lakes in this area, so
your fishing equipment might actually come in handy. Insect
repellent is always a good idea, too!
